ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: The local police on Friday handed over a container containing liquor to the officials of the embassies of five Muslim countries, sources told Dawn.

The Shalimar police on December 4 had seized a container suspected of containing a huge quantity of liquor. According to the freight bill, the container was booked in the name of an embassy in Islamabad, however, it had no mention of the goods inside.

The container was handed over to the embassies’ officials on the intervention of Foreign Office, the sources said, adding that the officials had liquor permit.

Accompanied by a protocol officer of the Foreign Office, the officials of Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Brunei, Afghanistan and Jordan embassies visited the Shalimar Police Station where the container was handed over to them.

When contacted, a senior officer of the Shalimar Police Station confirmed the report.
