HYDERABAD, Dec 5: A newly married couple, belonging to Solangi clan of Jamshoro district, has appealed to the superior judiciary to provide them protection as an edict has been issued by a jirga to kill them after declaring them karo-kari and order the recovery of their relatives, who were being held as hostages and three of them being illegally detained by the police.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday, Ms Farhana and her husband, Basheer Ahmed Solangi said that they were sui juris and they had married of their own free will and accord on November 20, and their Nikah was solemnized in Jamia Masjid, Nawabshah.

Ms Farhana said that she was engaged to Basheer Ahmed son of Ghulam Hussain Solangi six year back by her late father, Roshan Ali Solangi.

She said that after the death of her father, her uncles ASI Manzoor Ahmed Solangi, ASI Mohammad Daud Solangi and community member, ASI Mir Khan Solangi wanted to marry her to a habitual drinker and a bad character man for the sake of money.

She said one day, she left her house and went to the house of a friend from where she phoned her fiancé Basheer Ahmed Solangi. She said, Basheer Ahmed rescued her and she filed an affidavit in the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate Sakrand, clearly stating that she had neither been kidnapped by anyone nor had she taken away any item from her parents house.

She said, she had also stated in the affidavit that she wanted to marry Basheer Ahmed of her own free will. Thereafter, she said, their nikah was solemnized in Jamia Masjid Nawabshah. She said, his uncles and other community members became enraged and held a jirga in the house of an influential wadera where she and her husband were declared karo-kari.

She said, a false FIR was also registered by the Jamshoro district police in which her husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law and others were shown as accused. She said, her two brothers-in-law, namely Ali Asghar and Mir Mohammad and the uncle of her husband, Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, were being illegally confined by the police without showing their arrest.

She said that it was not known whether they are dead or alive. Ms Farhana said that since her tormentors were policemen, therefore no action was taken against them.

Basheer Ahmed Solangi said that her mother, four sisters and two brothers were being held as hostages by the wadera.

They appealed to the court to provide them protection, order the recovery of their detained relatives and take action against the culprits for holding jirga.
