LAHORE, Nov 29: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is likely to inaugurate a new all-economy-class train next month, says Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.
The Pakistan Express would take people from Rawalpindi to Karachi in Rs600 only, the minister said at a ceremony held here on Wednesday in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the Railways Mughalpura Institute.
The minister said two rakes for the new train had been rehabilitated at the Mughalpura Workshops adding that three more new trains would be run shortly for the poor.
He also announced setting up of the Railways Sport Foundation with the seed money of Rs100 million. The foundation would also develop sport nurseries and would provide stipends to over 2,000 talented children of the poor.
Sheikh Rashid said he had approached the army for the construction of new residential quarters and renovation of the existing one for low-grade employees. “I have offered them to own some railway land in return,” he said.
