THATTA, Nov 27: Indian navy personnel detained three fishing vessels along with their fish catch and 21 fishermen from the Pakistani territorial waters near Kajhar creek in Shah Bunder taluka on Monday morning.

Talking to reporters at the Thatta press club, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Thatta chapter president Gulab Shah said that the Indian officials in four motorboats with a helicopter hovering overhead stormed the Kajhar creek and after heavy firing escorted the vessels Al-Noor, Al-Nazirul Islam and Al-Blessing.

The fishermen were also subjected to torture, he said.

He said that soon after overpowering the occupants, Indian personnel escorted them towards the Indian waters.

Gulab Shah said that the operation might had been carried out in retaliation of recent capture of 22 Indian fishermen by the Pakistani authorities.

He demanded that oceanic limits of the two countries should be properly demarcated so that poor fishermen should not suffer.

When contacted, TPO Rasheed Serai said that such cases were not reported to police and dealt by the Naval Task Force.

He declined to offer any official comments.

PFF media coordinator Saami Memon told Dawn that the organisation had informed the Gujarat Fishermen Association and its vice-president Ramesh Kumar.
