LAHORE, Nov 24: The federal government has decided in principle to allow the import and exhibition of Indian feature films in Pakistan next year.

A formal notification to this effect is expected in January, official sources told Dawn.

Godfather, a joint venture between Indian and Pakistani film producers, is expected to be released in the two countries simultaneously on Eidul Azha under a special permission (because of being the joint venture).

Local exhibitors are optimistic that Godfather’s release will be followed by a regular import of Bollywood movies in Pakistan.

Certain important political personalities are learnt to have also shown their interest in the import of Indian films.
