Rally against blasphemous cartoon in book

BAHAWALPUR, Nov 21: Students of the Islamia University Bahawalpur and other colleges staged a protest rally on Baghdadul Jadid Campus on Tuesday to condemn the alleged blasphemous material in a book of the IUB’s central library.

According to protesters, a new book introduced in the MBA curriculum contained an objectionable cartoon. The name of Allah was found inscribed on the heel of the cartoon’s shoe.

On Tuesday morning, scores of students of IUB and other colleges took out a rally from Baghdad campus to old campus.

On receipt of information, acting VC Prof Muazzam Ali reached the spot and assured the protesters that the blasphemous portion of the book would be deleted.

Later, Dawn learnt that the books containing the objectionable cartoon had been sealed by the university administration till further orders.

ACCIDENT: Two women Akhtar Bibi and Amina Bibi were killed in a road accident here on Tuesday while a fertilizer dealer, Shaffat Ali, was allegedly shot dead by Nisar and his four accomplices at Chak no 68-DB near Yazman.

Police have registered a case against five people with no arrest.
