PESHAWAR, Nov 18: Heritage expert Yasmin Lari has stressed the need for enactment of a law by the NWFP government for preservation of historical monuments of Peshawar. Talking to newsmen at the office of Sarhad Rural Support Programme, Ms Lari said: 'Peshawar is a unique city due to its rich cultural heritage which needs to be preserved.”
Ms Lari, who has already prepared a document on Peshawar printed by Heritage Foundation's National Register, said prosperity is the worst enemy of heritage and if law was not enacted to protect historical sites, the city will lose its uniqueness.
She said Peshawar has a lot of historical buildings and people must know the importance of these buildings.
She also stressed the need for making people aware of value of culturally rich sites. She said a sense of ownership should be created among the masses as a result of which the preservation goal could be achieved.—APP
