PESHAWAR, Nov 18: Women councillors of district council on Saturday welcomed the Women Protection Bill 2006 and said it would end discrimination and oppression against them. Councillor Tahira Bukhari said that the government's intention behind passing the bill was to give rights to women as enshrined in Islam.

She acknowledged the role played by President Pervez Musharraf and said that women were thankful to him and the federal government and all members of the National Assembly, who had voted in favour of the bill.—APP
