KARACHI, Nov 16: The Church World Service - Pakistan/Afghanistan, an NGO, held the first of its kind inter-school competition on HIV/Aids on Thursday. The main purpose of the HIV/Aids project of CWS-P/A is to create awareness on the issue among all the segments of the population. The event was held at the Bahria Auditorium and was attended by schools from Karachi and Mirpurkhas.

There were 200 adolescent students who took part in the speech, slogan–writing and quiz competition. Dr Arshad Mehmood Khan, programme manager Sindh Aids Control Programme was the chief guest on the occasion. Certificates of participation were given to all the participating students and shields were distributed amongst the winners of each competition.

The event was greatly appreciated by students and teachers and they felt that such events should be held more regularly so that more people could learn about the issue and be able to protect themselves and their families from HIV.—APP
