SIALKOT, Nov 11: Scores of villagers and rickshaw drivers on Saturday blocked traffic for about an hour near Glotiyaan on main Daska-Gujranwala GT Road as a protest against the killing of a rickshaw driver during a dacoity on Friday night.
The protesters carrying banners and placards chanted slogans against the police and burnt tyres, demanding early arrest of killers.
Daska ASP Tanveer Alam Odho rushed to the spot and negotiated with protesters who dispersed peacefully after his assurance.
Reports said rickshaw driver Nunna (23) was shot dead by four unidentified dacoits on offering resistance on Friday night. Daska Saddar police have registered a case with no arrest.
Meanwhile, two robbers made off with prize bonds worth Rs1.4 million at gunpoint from trader Sheikh Amjad after injuring him seriously on offering resistance in Water Works locality of Sialkot.
Kotwali police have registered a case with no arrest.
SECP’S DESK: After a few months’ closure, the help desk of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has been re-opened at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
SCCI president Sheikh Abdul Waheed Sandal told newsmen on Saturday that the SECP officials would provide technical assistance and guidance to Sialkot-based companies.
COMPENSATION: District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema on Saturday distributed compensation cheques totalling Rs0.8 million among the affected Ahmedis of Jhandu Sahi-Daska at his office.
A few months ago, an angry mob had set ablaze shops and houses of Ahmedis following desecration of the Holy Quran.
The district nazim also gave a cheque of Rs25,000 for early repair of their worship place in the village.
MPA Mumtaz Ali and Sialkot DCO Rizwanullah Baig also attended the ceremony.
