PESHAWAR, Nov 7: Former NWFP senior minister and Jamaat-i-Islami provincial chief Sirajul Haq has said that a medical university will soon be established here.
He expressed the hope that the university would prove to be a model teaching and research institution of international standard.
Mr Haq was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Paramedics’ Association of Khyber Medical College and Khyber College of Dentistry on Tuesday.
He said a bill for this purpose had been tabled in the Provincial Assembly which would soon be approved.
He said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government had taken revolutionary steps in health and other sectors.
He referred to the establishment of a girls’ medical college, provision of better facilities at the district hospital and establishment of rest houses near major hospitals to offer accommodation to poor attendants.
He said the approval of a service structure for paramedical staff would not only meet the long-standing demand of low-paid employees but would also help in improving the standard of health services.
Khyber Medical College Principal Dr Fazal Ahmad, the provincial president of the paramedics’ association, Sirajuddin Burki, and its chairman Roidad Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Mr Haq took oath of the newly-elected cabinet of the association.
