Research work in chemistry lauded

FAISALABAD, Nov1: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that modern technology is indispensable for development and progress of the country. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Ist International Chemistry Conference organised by the Government College University, Faisalabad here on Wednesday.

The governor said the future of Pakistan was linked with the modern technology.

“We should give all possible resources for providing access to younger generations to modern knowledge instead of wasting them in unnecessary clash with the world.”

He stressed the need for gaining modern technology and said science and technology had changed the whole scenario of the world.

“Pakistan too will be considered a developed country when we will be able to acquire the latest technology and prepare the most modern machinery by utilising our own research.”

The governor appreciated research work done in pharmaceutical chemistry, natural product chemistry, modern trends in chemical sciences, global trends with regard to the environment, agricultural chemistry, industrial chemistry and nutritional chemistry.

He said it was the need of the hour to transform theoretical knowledge into industrial knowledge.

As many as 15 participants from America, Egypt,

Japan, Iran, Italy, Uzbekistan, Belgium, Britain and other countries read out their papers.

The governor lauded the GCU for arranging four international conferences relating to modern knowledge since its establishment as many years ago.

Highlighting the university’s performance, vice-chancellor

Dr Asif Iqbal said the number of PhD teachers had increased from seven to 60 as a result of coordinated contacts with international universities.
