KHAR, Oct 31: Thousands of tribesmen held rallies here on Tuesday in protest against Monday’s air strike on a madressah and killing of 82 students and teachers. The protesters condemned the United States for its involvement in the attack.
They condemned the government for what they termed following the dictates of the US and killing the country’s people in the guise of the war against terrorism. The Bajaur Agency political authorities had closed all routes to town.
A delegation led by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam secretary-general Maulana Shujaul Malik was barred from entering the agency at Yakka Ghund.
Students of Yakka Ghund Degree and Mono-Techniques Colleges staged a demonstration and block the Pubbi-Shobbra road.
Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Qazi Hussain Ahmed participated in a demonstration staged by the students of the postgraduate degree college in Nowshera. He condemned the attack and killing of innocent students and teachers.
He challenged the contention of the ISPR Director-General that the operation had not been carried out at the behest of the US by the army.
The protesters chanted slogans against the US and pledged to continue Jihad and take revenge. They blocked the Grand Trunk Road for a couple of hours.
Wanted cleric Faqir Mohammad led a rally and set ablaze the flag of the US. He, however, said the peace agreement in the region would remain intact the jirga formulated for the purpose would continue to exist.-—PPI/Online
