PESHAWAR, Oct 30: A large number of members of the Peshawar district council are preparing to bring a no-confidence motion against Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali. The Leader of the Opposition in the council Riaz Bacha confirmed that he had attended a meeting on Sunday evening to discuss the issue.

About 70 of the 132 members of the council had promised to support the no-confidence motion, he said.

He said the nazim had failed to complete development projects and distribute funds among the councillors for some schemes as promised.

“We smell corruption in the school furniture project. Many schools have not been provided furniture,” Mr Bacha said.

He said a majority of councillors and union council nazims belonging to the Awami National Party had expressed lack of confidence in the nazim.

Some members of the Pakistan People’s Party, a coalition partner in the district government with the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, had also expressed support to the move, he claimed.
