KARACHI, Oct 27: As many as 18 suspected gamblers were remanded on Friday to judicial custody by a judicial magistrate, West. JM Ali Ahmed Jan sent the suspects to jail till Nov 6.
The alleged gamblers, including Yousuf, Rashid, Siddique and Adnan, were arrested on Thursday by the Mominabad police. The police also seized stake money of Rs15,960 from them.
Meanwhile, judicial magistrate, South, Ghulam Nabi Panhwar, remanded two alleged bandits to jail till Nov 6.
Suspects Nazar Ali and Mohammed Yousuf were allegedly caught red-handed after an abortive attempt of robbery at a cellular phone shop in Mominabad on Eid day after a shootout with the police.
kidnapping case: Six accused involved in a kidnapping for ransom case were remanded to police custody by the administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs) for Karachi Division, for 10 days.
Mohammad Yousuf, Masood Ahmed, Rashid Akhter, Abdul Wahid, Shoaib and Aftab are charged with the kidnapping of Abdul Rafey, a resident of F.B Area, from Sikander Chowrangi, Korangi Industrial Area for ransom on Sept 29.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, of High Court of Sindh, also administrative judge of ATCs for Karachi, remanded the accused to police custody till Nov 6.
SI Ashfaque Hussain of the Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell appeared to seek the police custody of the accused.
According to the police, the accused kidnapped the abductee and forced him to sign a cheque for Rs1.2 million. Later, after enchasing of cheque, they released him.
Meawhile, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on Friday remanded two alleged killers of law enforcers to police custody, till Nov 6.
The city police maintained that accused Kamran alias Kamoo and Mohammad Farhan alias Shani alias Gol had allegedly targeted 12 policemen, two personnel of rangers and a guard of private security agency between June 23 and Oct 13 at random in the city.
Both the suspects were arrested after a brief encounter with a police team on Oct 17 near Cattle Colony, Landhi.
The police sought the custody of the alleged serial killers of law enforcers in nine different murder cases.
The cases included alleged killing of ranger personnel Momi Khan and Ghulam Abbas on Sept 1, constable Mohammad Wakeel and Syed Zahid on Sept 28 and the killing of SI Ijaz Hussain on June 23 in Saudabad.
The accused are also charged with killing of policemen Ghulam Ghous, Mohammad Ishaque and M. Ali in October in Shah Latif Town.
Three separate cases were also lodged against the accused for killing SI Mohammad Nadeem Bangash on June 23, constable Mohammad Imran on Sept 27 and Meraj, and injuring Rehan on offering resistance during cellphone snatching attempt on June 27 in Airport Police limits.
