OKARA, Oct 24: Former chief minister and PML leader Mian Manzoor Wattoo has said an impartial and autonomous election commission should be formed before general election.
He was speaking on Monday evening at an iftar dinner he hosted at his residence in Wasavewala in the honor of mediamen.
He said the present political situation was clearly in favour of the ruling PML and election might be held early in 2007.
Despite better policies of President Musharraf, poverty, unemployment and injustice were rampant in society, he admitted.
He said the government invited the opinion of all the political parties for an ‘independent and impartial’ election commission and this step was appreciable.
He said the opposition was disjointed so there was no chance of the formation of a grand alliance.
He said 12 cases were registered against him on various charges but he was acquitted of all charges because he did not commit any corruption.
