Robbers kill two, injure three

LAHORE, Oct 23: Robbers shot dead two people and injured three others in separate incidents in the city on Monday. Four robbers gunned down a shopkeeper and a customer and injured two passers-by in Kot Lakhpat area.

Tariq Jamil, 35, was dealing customers at his shop on Katcha Jail Road when the robbers came there and demanded cash and cell phones at gunpoint. He put up resistance and the robbers opened fire.

Tariq and Ghulam Husain, 32, were killed on the spot while passers-by Abdullah and Farid sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Lahore General Hospital in critical condition.

The robbers escaped from the scene with Rs10,000 in cash and a cell phone.

The DIG (operations) reached the spot and ordered suspension of beat officer Sub-Inspector Ashiq Wattoo and four Muhafiz force officials on the charges of negligence.

He directed the Kot Lakhpat SPO and SHO to arrest the culprits in 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Capital City Police chief has constituted two teams, led by SPs of CIA and investigation wing, to trace the culprits.

Two robbers, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted an employee of Directorate General Public Relations, Wasif Hameed, and his friend Rizwan when they were strolling near a bakery in Faisal Town.

They held them at gunpoint. Wasif handed over his purse and cell phone to them while Rizwan put up resistance and the robbers fired a shot on one of his legs. He was rushed to Jinnah Hospital.

Four robbers barged into Farrukh Butt’s house at Kamran Block in Gulshan Iqbal, held up family members at gunpoint and took away cash and other valuables worth Rs250,000.

A passer-by was deprived of cash and a cell phone and was injured on resistance in North Cantonment.

Iftikhar and his wife were deprived of cash and jewellery in the Mustafaabad area when they were returning after shopping.
