KARACHI, Oct 20: The Sindh High Court on Friday ordered police to hand over a woman, Nargis Junejo, daughter of a former MNA, to her mother following a patch up in a family dispute.

Ms Junejo had, earlier in the day, approached the court to seek protection stating that her family had married her to her cousin against her will and that she feared for her life. The court had accordingly sent her to Darul Aman.

However, Ms Junejo appeared before Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Sabihuddin Ahmed again and expressed her readiness to reunite with her family, citing a patch up.

Accepting the plea, the court handed her over to her mother, canceling its earlier order of sending her to Darul Aman.

Ms Junejo, 24, is a daughter of Mohammad Khan Junejo, a former member of the National Assembly from Tando Adam, District Sanghar.

A senior police officer, requesting anonymity told Dawn that Nargis Junejo had, about a year back, eloped with a man, Tariq, who owned a boutique at Tariq Road. However, the family had somehow managed to bring her back. Subsequently, a few months back, she was married to her cousin.

The police officer said that four days back, Ms Junejo, along with her husband, went to Tariq Road for Eid shopping and after dodging him, slipped into the same boutique and did not return.

She then approached the court for protection, but whereabouts of Tariq are still unknown, according to the officer.
