KARACHI, Oct 20: Brisk shipping activity was observed at the port where five ships scheduled to load, offload containers, chemicals and furnace oil were arranged berthing at various terminals during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Friday.
Departures were also fairly brisk where two container ships, one chemicals carrier and one diesel oil vessel sailed during the report period.
A total of 11 ships -- Sima Paya, Eiang Wan, IBN Sina, Thurngia Express, Pioneer Spirit, M.M Galveston, Moon Vazs, DD Master, Tassels, Yanseni and Wai Mea -- are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, rice, edible oil, furnace oil, sugar, chemicals and coal.
A cargo volume of 0.101 tons comprising 0.079 million tons imports and 0.022 million tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,112 (TEUs) was handled during the last 24 hours.
Four ships, M.M Galveston, Yanaseni, Thurngia Express and Sima Paya, departed, while Xiang Wan and IBN Sina are expected to sail on Friday.
Four ships, MSC Germany, MSC Austria, Samhio Cygnus and Liquid Success, are expected to take berths on Friday.
Islamabad is due to arrive on Friday, while Pacer, MOL Kauri and Bow Favour are due to arrive on Saturday.
