The police quoted Salamat, a resident of Haq Nawaz Road in Mughalpura, as having claimed that his wife’s nephew Riaz, who was visiting the family, had killed his wife Asma and four children. “I made for work early in the morning, leaving Riaz with my wife and two children Zainul Abideen, 16, and Sana, 7, home.
“Riaz first beat up Zain and Sana and tied them up. When Shahzad, 14, and Sohail, 13, returned from the school, they were also thrashed and tied by the criminal.
As soon as Asma came to know about the situation, she retaliated but Riaz stabbed her to death and electrocuted her children in the afternoon,” Shalimar SPO Akhtar Pehalwan quoted him as having said.
While Hafiz Hasnain, the youngest son, was last to return. “Riaz also beat him up and tried to electrocute him. However, he could not. Then Riaz tried to stab him to death, but he escaped with injuries and called out for help once he got out in the street.
People from the neighbourhood rushed to the spot. Riaz made good his escape taking advantage of the confusion. Hasnain, Shahazad and Sohail were rushed to the hospital. But Shahzad and Sohail were pronounced dead on their arrival at the hospital,” the SPO said.
The police later took Riaz’s brother Shahbaz into custody for interrogation from their Kot Lakhpat residence.
SPO Akhtar Pehalwan said according to Shahbaz’s statement, Riaz was a loafer and was involved in criminal activities in the area.
Meanwhile, the locals and people from other areas gathered in large number at the spot after the incident.
In another incident, a couple was found dead in mysterious circumstances at their rented residence in Mozang.
Police said Sheraz and Sumaira, residents of Kasur who were married two years ago, were living temporarily at their Bahawal Sher Road rented house.
Sheraz along with his wife had shifted to Lahore after a quarrel with his parents some time ago but the couple had developed disputes over domestic issues.
On Thursday, Sumaira called out his brother Advocate Shahzad from Kasur. When Shahzad reached the house he found the door locked from inside and informed the neighbours and the police who later broke open the door and found the couple dead in a room.
The police started looking the matter with different aspects, suspecting that Sheraz might have committed suicide after killing his wife.
Meanwhile, a woman was found murdered at a hotel in Mozang area.
The police said Zubaida, 30, a resident of Deepalpur, had contracted love marriage with Mudassir a year ago but the latter divorced her after three months.
They again developed relations and Mudassir took her to a hotel on Wednesday evening. The next morning, Zubaida was found dead at room 104 while Mudassir was missing.
The police took Nasir, owner of the hotel, into custody for interrogation and removed the body to the city mortuary.
SHOT DEAD: One person was killed while two other people injured in a clash between two rival groups in Nishtar Colony early on Thursday morning.
Police said Tariq and Saleem groups had a rivalry in the area.
On Thursday, Saleem group attacked Tariq group, killing Tariq and injuring his two friends Rehman and Ahmed during sehr at a local hotel.
Rehman and Ahmed were rushed to hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.
A labour was found slain in Baghbanpura here on Thursday.
Police said Karamat, alias Labha, 30, a resident of Bassi Morr, Bund Road, worked as a welder with a local factory. He was going on a bicycle when unidentified people shot him from close range near Dera Majid, Shadipura.
The police shifted the body to the city morgue for autopsy.
A case was registered.
