PESHAWAR, Oct 15: The NWFP government has constituted a committee to look into appointment of a registrar at the University of Peshawar after receiving complaints from members of the syndicate that rules were violated in the matter.

The committee, comprising chairman of the governor’s inspection team as its convener and secretaries for higher education and establishment department as members, was recently constituted on the directives of chief secretary Ijaz Ahmad Qureshi.

The committee will submit its report to the chief secretary who will forward it to Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai, the chancellor, to decide the matter.

Syndicate members were divided on the proposal to appoint Sher Bahadur as the registrar. Some members boycotted the meeting saying his appointment would be in violation of rules, the sources said.

“Six members voted against the proposal and five supported it in the university syndicate meeting”, the sources said.
