LAHORE, Oct 13: Punjab University students on Friday staged another protest demonstration by blocking Canal Road to traffic with an electric pole and a heap of mud to express their resentment against the expulsion of three university students.

The student-activists smashed windowpanes of two buses and blocked the traffic for some time. They also reportedly broke the camera of a private TV channel.

Reacting to it, the transporters suspended their operation on Canal Road for around four hours as a result of which the commuters faced severe problems.

Meanwhile, the Punjab University administration called out the police to disperse the protesters. A police contingent reached the troubled spot in about half an hour and dispersed the protesters.

SSP Traffic Wasim Sial deployed two DSPs and four traffic police squads to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the road.

PU registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan said the students had staged a ‘token’ protest demonstration to express their resentment. He said the police were called out in no time. —Staff Reporter
