Captives get poor quality food in Ramazan

GUJRANWALA, Oct 10: The Punjab task force on prisons chairperson paid a surprise visit to district jail and expressed her dissatisfaction over the quality of meal being provided to women and juveniles during Ramazan and recommended that contract for food supply for Iftari should be cancelled immediately.

Task force chairperson Majida Zaidi, also an adviser to the Punjab chief minister, checked the barrack of women prisoners during her visit on Tuesday and broke her fast (Iftari) with women prisoners. She expressed her dismay over the supply of poor quality dates to the prisoners by the contractor and destroyed the stock of these dates in her presence.

She also checked the kitchen and godown and got information about the juveniles and expressed anger for not providing them better facilities according to jail manual.

JAIL CASE: The anti-terrorism court No 1 on Tuesday accepted the application of Gujrat’s former DPO Raja Munawar Hasan for acquittal in Sialkot jail incident case as no evidence has so far been recorded against him.

Raja Munawar also requested the court that his statement should not be recorded regarding the incident instead he should be acquitted.

The court adjourned the case for Oct 13.

FRAUD: The executive district officer (education) suspended from service on embezzlement and corruption charges an assistant education officer (AEO) on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the DCO and EDO (education) received complaints against Wahando AEO Tariq Mahmood Awan that he collected funds from students and their parents for tsunami and earthquake victims and embezzled it. He was also blackmailing teaching staff and extracting Rs500 from them.

The district monitoring officer probed the matter and found him guilty.

YOUTH KILLED: The bus of a private company crushed a youth on the GT Road on Tuesday.

Kashif Butt, the son of car showroom owner Fiaz Ahmad, was on his way after buying dates for Iftari. A Toor company bus crushed him under the wheels.

Police have arrested the driver.
