HYDERABAD, Oct 9: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Mr Waseem Akhtar, has asked police officials to work honestly and protect lives and property of people so that their credibility could be restored.
Speaking at a meeting of DPOs of the Hyderabad region here on Monday, the adviser called upon the officials not to indulge in politics and avoid favouring anyone on the basis of political affiliation they should be neutral and resist political pressure.
Sindh IGP Jahangir Mirza, Hyderabad RPO Fayaz Ali Khan and Mirpurkhas DIG Saleemullah Khan were also present on the occasion.
Referring to the problems pointed out by the officials about the shortage of police force and vehicles, Waseem Akhtar said that unnecessary protocol to VIPs should be avoided especially when they were escorted by their own mobiles.
He directed them to ensure full security measures for judges and foreigners.
The advisor also asked officials that refusal of FIRs should be avoided and justice to poor victims should be provided purely on merit.
He said that reforms in the police department were unavoidable and he along with senior police officers was planning to encourage moral values in the police force through effective policies.
Discussing the shortage of police force, the advisor asked officers to identify the areas from where unnecessary force could be withdrawn and reposted in police stations.
He said that the policy of “Shaheed Quota” would also be reviewed in a way so that it should not cause difficulty to legal heirs of “Shudha”.
Mr Akhtar asked the officials to ensure strict patrolling along highways and streets of the city to keep an eye on criminals.
HCCI: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has criticised the district police for an inordinate delay in nabbing bandits who had robbed the Adil Agencies Distributors of Rs12 million pharmaceutical goods in the SITE area.
At its meeting held here on Sunday, the executive committee of the chamber said that goods were stolen 20 days back but police had failed to recover them.
Yousuf Suleman presided over the meeting.
Former president of the chamber, Haji Mohammad Yaqoob, said that he had met with the RPO and informed him about the unrest in the business community and inefficiency of the police.
He said that criminals had decamped with a truck load of pharmaceutical goods valued at Rs12 million from godown of the site area but the police had failed to arrest the criminals and recover the goods.
He said the incident had created a sense of insecurity among the business community.
The meeting demanded that high-ups of police should arrest the culprits and recover the stolen goods within seven days lest the business community was forced to resort to protest.
