ABBOTTABAD, Oct 9: Transporters observed a strike against the Abbottabad police for allegedly manhandling and beating the president of their association.

There was no public transport from Mansehra and Haripur to other parts of the country. Traffic from Abbottabad to Peshawar and Rawalpindi also remained suspended, creating difficulties for people.

Students, patients in hospitals and employees of government and private organisations were the worst affected.

The DIGP of Hazara suspended three police officials involved in the incident, and an FIR was registered against them.

The suspended policemen were identified as SI Ilyas, Cantonment police station’s additional SHO M. Naseer and constable Rizwan.

Traders of Hazara also attended a meeting jointly held by transporters from Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Batagram. The meeting was in progress when this report was filed.

SANITATION STAFF: The sanitation staff of the Tehsil Municipal Administration, Abbottabad, continued their strike on Monday against the arrest of their colleagues and the alleged misbehaviour of police.

Streets in the main town and the Sabzi Mandi were littered with garbage as the strike entered the third day.

Some TMA employees had been arrested during an operation against pushcart owners and encroachers in the city.

The sanitation staff, at a meeting, vowed to continue their strike and said more employees would join them if their colleagues were not released.
