Action pledged against bogus NGOs

BAHAWALPUR, Oct 8: Punjab Chief Minister’s adviser on Social Welfare Saba Sadiq has said that the government will take action against bogus NGOs.

Talking to reporters at the local Circuit House here on Saturday night, the adviser said that Punjab had 6,500 registered NGOs.

She said the performance of all NGOs was being assessed and the government would cancel registration of all those NGOs having poor track record.

She said an institution for the help of senior citizens would also be established in Bahawalpur. The adviser said that she had directed the DPO to deploy police officials at women’s welfare homes as well.

RETRIEVED: The Cholistan Development Authority claimed to have retrieved its 500 squares of land from land-grabbers in Cholistan.

A source said that a gang of land-grabbers was illegally tilling the CDA land and was busy excavating a canal at Chaks 147/148-DNB.

He said that after their ejection the other day, their machinery was confiscated while Derawar police registered a case against the gangsters. No arrest has so far been made.
