LAHORE, Oct 6: District Nazim Mian Amer has said the municipal magistracy system is expected to be launched in the provincial metropolis as a pilot project in the near future.

Talking to newsmen at the District Nazim House here on Friday evening, he said the Punjab Local Government Commission had been briefed on the need for the system during its visit to the Jinnah Hall a few days back.

He said the existing judicial system cater for the requirement of only seven to eight per cent of the population involved in civil and criminal litigation. There was no system for dealing with the civic problems like adulteration, encroachments, sanitation and price-hike affecting the entire population and the municipal magistracy was the only answer to it.

Answering a question about price control during Ramazan, he said the direct supply of certain products had been arranged for the Sasta Ramazan Bazaars. The prices of vegetable ghee and flour had been reduced as promised and sale of meat at fixed prices arranged in Sasta Bazaars. Sasta ration coupons and packets also are available.

The nazim said the CDGL had ensured availability of fruits and vegetables in Ramazan and Sunday markets at lower rates compared to open markets’. Retailers were also being booked for profiteering but there was no need to take action against the managements of big department stores as the poor did not go there for shopping. There was no complaint against these stores either.
