PESHAWAR, Oct 4: The women’s wing of the NWFP chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami, has called upon the government to withdraw be proposed ‘protection of women bill’.

The party’s women activists, including MNAs, MPAs and councillors, staged a protest demonstration against the bill outside the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday.

They were carrying party flags, banners and placards inscribed with slogans against what they called the US-backed bill aimed at establishing a secular society based on values of western individualism. They blocked the Sher Shah Suri Road for an hour.

Provincial JI Women’s Wing Nazima Humaira Tayyaba and Peshawar chapter Nazima Shaheen Ghyur expressed hope that the women of Pakistan would not allow the West-backed NGOs’ to turn Pakistan into secular state.

“The bill does not offer any protection to the women. Instead, it provides protection to the pampered and socially misfit male groups.
