PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Residents of a village near here have called upon the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government to take action against its MPA Javed Mohmand who has allegedly got the construction of a school stopped in Khar Khori (Muslimabad) and told the villagers them that the work will resume only if they join Jamaat-i-Islami.

Khan Nawaz Khan and other villagers, belonging to union council No 61, were speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday.

Mr Khan said he had offered two kanals of land in the name of the school and literacy department to build a primary school in his village.

“I held a meeting with the EDO (education-male) and offered the land free of cost for the purpose,” he said.

Later, Mr Khan said, education officials inspected the land and ordered the preparation of the PC-1 and design of the school building. He said the government had even assigned the school contract to a local contractor, Hafiz Hidayatullah.

Mr Khan said he had also handed over an application to the MPA who recommended early construction of the school building.

After completion of all formalities, he regretted, the MPA wrote to the nazim of Adezai union council No 6, asking him to delay the project.

Mr Khan said he was a social worker and affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League.
