FAISALABAD, Sept 30: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to disconnect the water supply connection of chronic defaulters who are not ready to clear their dues even after concessions announced by the district nazim, it is learnt here on Saturday.

The agency is facing a shortfall of Rs44 million because of its poor recovery mechanism.

It could recover only Rs1.26 million during a drive launched on the instruction of the nazim.

Nazim Rana Zahid Tausif, who is also the chairman of Wasa and FDA governing bodies, announced a relief package for the defaulters and urged them to deposit their dues within stipulated time. The relief package was advertised in local and national newspapers.

Sources said even after the passage of one-and-a-half months, no worth mention recovery could be made owing to the lethargic attitude of the Wasa officers.

They said DCO Azam Suleman, who also the Wasa managing director, had warned the officers that stern action would be taken if they failed to meet the recovery targets.

The DCO has directed the officers concerned to disconnect the water supply connection of Allama Iqbal Colony straight away.

Asia had allegedly eloped with Arif about five months ago and returned home recently.
