BADIN, Sept 30: Prisoners in Central Jail complain that the jail administration subjects them to harsh and inhuman treatment, forces them to eat insufficient and poor quality food and demands bribes from their relatives in return for sending in gifts.
A group of prisoners who were brought to the court for hearing on Saturday used the opportunity to disclose what was happening behind the prison walls. They believed most of the prison officials were devoid of any compassion for their fellow humans.
They said that they were fed insufficient and poor quality food and that too after hours of intolerable wait. The relatives who visit them from time to time are forced to pay Rs30-200 to the guards to send in things they bring for them.
“If they fail to fulfil their unjustifiable demands, the jail wardens turn on them with vengeance and treat them like animals,” said a distraught prisoner.
According to jail schedule, a new prisoner is sent to “Kala Chakar” where he is to remain for five days but the administration forces him to work for months if he does not cooperate with them, the prisoners disclose.
The administration never uses generator during load-shedding or breakdowns and just turn it on for a few hours when a VIP pays visit, they say.
