New HC to India named

ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: The government on Friday announced the appointment of Shahid Malik as High Commissioner for Pakistan to India, according to an official statement.

Mr Malik holds a masters degree in economics. He joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in October 1972 and held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions abroad, including Tokyo (1974-78), Rome (1978-80), Washington (1986-92) and New Delhi (1992-1995)

He served at the headquarters as section officer (1973-74 and 1981-83) director (1983-86) and director-general (1996).

He had also served as member, directing staff at the Civil Services Academy, Lahore (1996-2001).

Currently, he is serving as the High Commissioner for Pakistan to Canada since April 15, 2002.
