QUETTA, Sept 29: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees will stop repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan to Afghanistan on October 14, says a UNHCR press release issued on Friday.
It says the UNHCR will resume repatriation in March 2007. UNHCR assistance will be provided only to those Afghans who have the proof of registration cards to be issued after applying for registration of Afghans in Pakistan from October 15 to December 29.
Only those refugees who were counted in the Pakistan government census of Afghan citizens in Pakistan conducted from February to March 2005 would be eligible for the registration, the press release said. —APP
