LAHORE, Sept 27: PPP (Patriots) secretary-general Malik Javed Ahmad Awan has moved the Lahore High Court in a writ petition seeking allotment of ‘sword’ as election symbol for the by-election to a rural seat of the Punjab Assembly (PP-157).

Mr Awan was allotted ‘tower’ as election symbol by the Election Commission, which had rejected his subsequent appeal to allot him ‘sword’ as election symbol.

Through the petition, Mr Awan, who is a candidate from the constituency along with seven other aspirants, including Tajammal Husian (PML-N) and Naveed Ashiq Diyal (ruling PML), submitted that his party was the genuine PPP which was also registered with the ECP.

He requested the LHC to set aside the ECP decision and accept his appeal to secure the symbol. —Correspondent
