Police, lawyers scuffle in court

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 26: A scuffle took place between a police party and lawyers on the district courts’ premises over the arrest of a man on Tuesday.

Sumera Jehan of Zeeshan Colony, Kamalia, had contracted court marriage with Azizur Rahman without the consent of her parents. However, the family took the girl back home from her husband’s house a few days ago.

Aziz filed a petition in the court of district and sessions judge Aslam Bhatti in which he requested that the police should be asked to recover his wife from the house of her parents. The court ordered her parents to produce the girl in the court.

On Tuesday, they brought Sumera to the court. In the meantime, a Faisalabad (Sargodha Road) police party led by sub-inspector Ibrar Khan tried to arrest Aziz in a fabricated cycle theft case.

His counsel told policemen that Aziz had already filed a bail application and they could not arrest him till the decision of the court in this case. But the police and relatives of the girl had a scuffle with lawyers. However, the lawyers succeeded in taking the youth to the courtroom of the district and sessions judge.

When they apprised the judge of the situation, he asked Aziz to sit in the courtroom and ordered the police not to arrest him till the court’s decision.

Later, the DBA members boycotted courts in protest and demanded early suspension of the police officials.

The court granted bail before arrest to Aziz and ordered that Sumera should be sent to Darul Amaan in police custody.

DIES ON ROAD: A student of the Faisalabad Agriculture University, Toba Tek Singh campus, was crushed to death by a bus on Toba-Faisalabad Road on Tuesday.

Umair was waiting for a bus in Chak 277-JB, Bhuddi Pind, when a speeding bus hit and killed him.

WATER SCHEME: District PPP secretary Chaudhry Saeed Akhtar claims that owing to mismanagement and apathy of the TMA, the new water supply project completed with a cost of Rs45 million two has become ineffective.

In a press statement on Tuesday, he said dirty water was being supplied to the citizens as a result of which a large number of citizens was suffering from Hepatitis-C and typhoid. He demanded the district nazim to hold an inquiry into the charges.
