GUJRANWALA, Sept 26: Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three alleged kidnappers of an industrialist who confessed to his murder for not paying the ransom.
Reports said industrialist Wajid Munir of Fazal Market area was kidnapped a few days ago. The accused demanded Rs3 million ransom for his release, but his family could not arrange the amount. On Tuesday, the police arrested Muhammad Azhar, Usman and Naeem on the report of the family. The accused told the police that they had killed Mr Munir, the father of two children, for not paying the ransom and threw his body in a canal near Hafizabad.
The Baghbanpura police have started search of the body with the help of the canal department.
SUSPENDED: National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) swift centre in-charge deputy-director Abdul Matin was suspended from service on public complaints here on Tuesday.
Reports said the Nadra director-general received complaints that Trust Plaza swift centre in-charge Mr Matin used to misbehave with visitors over minor issues. Renala Khurd deputy-director Rana Asgher Ali was appointed Trust Plaza center in-charge.
Mr Matin claimed that he had eliminated almost all touts from the office during his two-year tenure and settled public issues amicably.
CLUBBED TO DEATH: A youth was clubbed to death by his rivals over a children quarrel in Garjakh here on Tuesday.
Reports said Muhammad Tahir was on his way home from the market when Munir, Khalid and Ehsan attacked him with clubs and injured him. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police are investigating.
BISE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) has established as many as 18 control rooms at tehsil and district levels for matriculation supplementary examination 2006 to be commenced from Thursday (tomorrow) and inducted resident inspectors for supervision.
This was stated by board chairman Masudul Haq at a briefing here on Tuesday.
He said the main control room had been set up at his office.
Other control rooms had been established at Government Comprehensive High School, Gujranwala, Government High School, Nizamabad, Wazirabad, Government High School No.1, Kamoki, Government High School, Naushera Virkan, Government Model High School, Hafizabad, Government College, Pindi Bhattian, Government Jamia High School, Gujrat, Government High Schools of Kharian and Sera-i-Alamgir, Sir Syed High Schools of Mandi Bahauddin, Malakwal, Phalia, Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur, Narowal and Shakargarh. He said all resident inspectors had been directed to submit their report to the main control room daily.
STREET CRIME: The local chamber of commerce and industry provided as many as 20 motorcycles to Mohafiz Squad to combat street crime by enhancing patrolling here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a ceremony, additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal, who was the chief guest, thanked chamber president Akhlaq Ahmad Butt and other office-bearers for providing two-wheelers to the squad and expressed the hope that crime graph would move downward.
PARKING FEE: A local court on Tuesday stopped recovery of parking fee at municipal taxi stand and summoned the DCO and nazims of four towns on Sept 30.
Judge Samina Hayat issued the stay order on the petition of municipal taxi drivers union, filed by its secretary-general Haji Khalid Pervaiz.
