ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: Consumers and civil society have shown concerns over the availability of banned drugs containing ‘irrational’ combination of Paracetamol, Caffeine and Diazepam in the market.

Omnidol of AWL, Amsidal of English Pharma, Barbidol of Wilshire and Medinol of Polyfine are still freely available in the market despite the fact that the Drug Registration Board on September 5 had cancelled the registration of all four brands, which contain the combination of Paracetamol, Caffeine and Diazepam, states a report of The Network for Consumers Rights issued here on Monday.

The report said one of the manufacturers filed an appeal in Appellate Board against the decision of the Drug Registration Board, but the plea was rejected.

That’s why all the country’s market should be cleaned of such types of drugs without any further delay as it was tantamount to playing with the health and lives of people, the organization has demanded.

The Drug Registration Board in its decision declared the said combination irrational as caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, while diazepam is a CNS depressant, and co-administration of paracetamol and diazepam is not required in any clinical situation.
