PESHAWAR, Sept 25: A local court on Monday ordered registration of an FIR against an ASI and other policemen for trespassing on the residence of Saranjam Khan, secretary general of Pakistan Muslim League (N), here.

Additional district and sessions judge Rauf Khattak accepted an application filed by Saranjam Khan under section 22-a of the Pakistan Penal Code which assigns the powers of Justice of Peace to courts.

The court directed the Hayatabad police to register an FIR against ASI Haider Ali and other policemen who conducted a raid on the residence of Mr Khan in Hayatabad township on September 4 when he was abroad.

The applicant stated that his grandson Shehdad, was out of his residence on the night of the incident, and when he returned, the inmates were sleeping and did not open the main gate for him. Apprehending that something wrong had happened to the inmates, Shehdad immediately contacted the Rescue 15 whose officials reached there, he added.

In the meantime, the door was opened and Mr Shehdad entered his residence.

Later, a raiding party of Hayatabad police reached there, said the applicant, alleging that they scaled the boundary wall and entered the residence illegally.

Advocate Sattar Khan appeared for the applicant and contended that the police had violated the law, and their act amounted to house trespass. He contended that the officials also misbehaved with the inmates.

The counsel contended that when approached, the police declined to register a case.
