RAJANPUR, Sept 23: Two alleged dacoits were killed during a police encounter in riverine area of Jampur tehsil near Pattan Mastoi, police said on Saturday.
Jampur circle DSP Saifullah Khatak told newsmen that the police received information that about 12 dacoits of Bosan and Mureeda Nokani gangs had reached the riverine area of Indus by a motorboat to commit robbery. A special task force was formed that moved to the place immediately on Friday night.
On seeing the police, the outlaws armed with rocket launchers and kalashnikovs opened fire. The shootout continued for two hours.
During the search operation, police found bodies of Ghulam Nazuk Bosan and a member of Mohana family of Nokani gang and recovered two kalashnikovs, six magazines and many cartridges.
The DSP said Ghulam Bosan was involved in many cases of kidnap for ransom, murder and dacoities.
People of the area who had reached the spot after hearing the firing also helped police against the criminals.
Meanwhile, Dera DIG Athar Mubarak has announced appreciation certificates for the team.
A case has been registered with Jampur police station under Sections 353/324, 186/399, 402/148, 149, AO13B/20/65. —APP
