MURREE, Sept 21: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistan’s defence has been made impregnable, and the country is now fully capable of defending itself against any aggression.

“No one dare cast an evil eye!” said the prime minister while speaking, as chief guest, at the Founders Day of Lawrence College Ghora Gali, some 60 kilometres off the federal capital.

He said Pakistan’s defence is in safe hands and it is capable of facing enemy’s aggression.

“Pakistan has the potential to rise to even greater heights with dedication and devotion of the nation,” he said.

The prime minister said Pakistan, which was in the worst shape until General Musharraf took over seven years back, had been transformed, and no one would be allowed to bring back those dark days of former rulers.

He said that the government was committed to providing education to people across the country, which would be taken forward through unity and integrity.

Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, acting Governor Punjab Mohammed Afzal Sahi and several federal ministers were also present.

Mr Aziz asked the students that in quest of knowledge they should not forget their parents whose prayers and hard-earned money had made it possible for them to come to the Lawrence College for learning.

The prime minister was highly appreciative of the role that the teachers of the college, established in 160, had played in making it a great institution with excellent academic results.

He also stressed the need for a balance between worldly knowledge and religious education. He quoted Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who said: “Seek knowledge even if you have to go to China.”

He described Lawrence College a pristine institution which had excelled in academic activities and produced country’s leadership, prime ministers, ministers and armed forces officers.

Moto of the college ‘Never Give In’ must be cherished by every Pakistan to seek excellence in every sphere of national life, he said.

Acknowledging the services of college principal Farooq Kiani, the prime minister said he put forward a demand of Rs40 million the moment he received him at the helipad for extension of sports and academic facilities in the college. He said he accepted the demand and the money would soon be released.

On the occasion, he also gave away trophies, souvenirs, certificates and other prizes to students excelling in various fields.

Due to strict security measures in the area, local commuters and tourists had to suffer a great deal as roads leading to Ghora Gali remained closed for traffic for several hours.
