Mega water supply plan to take off soon

BAHAWALPUR, Sept 18: An ADB-funded project of water supply and sewerage schemes costing about Rs1.37 billion will be launched within a fortnight. This was stated by district nazim Tariq Cheema at a press conference here on Monday.

He said the project included water supply, sewerage schemes and waste management and water treatment plant that would cover 19 kachi abadis of Bahawalpur tehsil. First of all, he said, two water supply schemes of Bindra and Satellite Town localities worth Rs400 million would be launched for which tenders had been accepted by ADB head office in Manila the other day. He said the projects would hopefully be completed within a year.

The district nazim said the chief minister had sanctioned Rs260 million for replacement of old water supply lines in walled city areas out of which Rs60 million had been released for the purpose.

He said the dualisation of Ahmedpur East Road at a cost of Rs150 million would be completed in a year. He said the district government was providing three mechanical sweepers to Bahawalpur city tehsil municipal administration.

Tariq Cheema said the district government was also helping TMA to build a modern bus stand at a cost of Rs45 million out of which it had contributed Rs20 million.

He said Jhangiwali Bypass would be constructed at a cost of Rs60 million.
