LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 15: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said the MMA government has taken practical measures for implementation of Shariah and introducing large-scale reforms in all sectors to improve the system of providing service to the masses.
“The enactment of Shariah law, formation of the Education Commission to bring in changes in the curricula in accordance with Islamic teachings, introduction of an interest-free banking system, ban on sale of liquor and reforms in prisons are all part of the MMA’s agenda to Islamise the society,” he said, while speaking at a public meeting in the Town Hall here on Friday.
“We believe in serving the humanity and do not make hollow promises to deceive the masses. During the past four years, we did what we could to improve the lot of the people and pay attention to the equal development of all areas of the province,” he said.
MNA Maulana Amanullah Khan, JUI’s district amir Maulana Abdul Wahid Begukhel, MPAs Zafrullah Khan and Malik Imran, former MNAs Naseer Mohammad Khan and Haji Kabir Khan, adviser to chief minister Shamsur Rehman Shamsi and others also spoke on the occasion.
Announcing a development package for Lakki Marwat district, Mr Durrani said that tenders for a two-lane section on the Indus Highway from Gambila to Dera Ismail Khan had been floated, while a dual road would be built from Gambila to Serai Naurang and Bannu.
He announced two vocational institutes, one each in Lakki Marwat city and Serai Naurang town, construction of a bridge at Chunnai on the Mela Mandrakhel-Zangikhel Road, provision of three bulldozers, setting up of Nadra office at Serai Naurang, upgrading of schools at Kotka Hayatullah and Abdulkhel and the launching of classes in mechanical and civil trades in the polytechnic institute of Lakki Marwat.
He announced a grant of Rs5 million for the TMA Lakki, Rs5 million for development works proposed by union nazims, Rs30 million for water supply schemes, Rs3 million for electrification schemes in the Mahal Panyala area, Rs1 million for a public park at Lakki, Rs200,000 for the Lakki Press Club and Rs100,000 for the Serai Naurang Press Club.
The chief minister also directed the authorities to prepare the PC-I of beautification of Lakki city so that necessary funds could be allocated to the project early.
During the day-long visit to the district, the chief minister inaugurated work on the tehsil offices and category-B hospital in Serai Naurang. He also inaugurated the newly-constructed bridge on the Gambila River and a new building of the Girls Degree College in Lakki city.
