VEHARI, Sept 11: Residents of Sahuka Town are suffering a lot owing to the apathetic attitude of the Sahuka police regarding registration of cases. A number of victims lodged complaints with the DPO against the Sahuka police at an open court held in Chak 317-EB, Burewala tehsil, the other day.
Waryam Khan said in his application that some dacoits forcibly entered his house on Aug 23 and locked the family members in a room.
On resistance, the intruders beat them up and snatched gold earrings and nose pins from women. They also misbehaved with the women and fled after looting cash.
The Sahuka police were informed, but SHO Maqsood Khan had not registered a case till the filing of this report.
Another complainant, Mohammad Ali, said some dacoits looted his shop on Aug 29, but the police did not register a case.
Another complainant told Dawn that a group of dacoits had been active in various parts of Sahuka Town, especially on the bridge of Sahuka-Chishtian Road, for the last few months, but the police had not registered cases of these incidents.
Some of the victims alleged that they had bribed various police officials of the Sahuka police station to get their problems solved, but to no avail.
Some others alleged that the police had registered fake cases against many innocent people only to mint money from them.
Later, DPO Malik Tassadaq Hayat gave seven days to the police officials concerned to resolve the grievances of the complainants. He received complaints regarding property dispute, kidnapping, theft and cattle snatching.
He appointed the DSP headquarters as inquiry officer and asked him to resolve the cases within a week.
