GUJRANWALA, Sept 11: The Punjab Teachers Union protested against the provincial government for not paying them ‘teaching allowance’ as announced by the prime minister two months ago and demanded that it should be paid instantly as other provinces had already paid it.
The participants in a meeting here on Monday, presided over by union chief organiser Ibrahim Saqi, expressed concern that bureaucracy was damaging the situation in educational institutions by depriving the teachers of their constitutional rights and misleading the government.
They said except Punjab, all provinces had paid the allowance in accordance with prime minister order. But the teachers of major province of country have been deprived of it.
They said some bureaucrats were foiling the plan of Punjab chief minister of Parha Likha Punjab.
They demanded that all their genuine demands should be accepted immediately otherwise they would start protest movement against the government in support of their demands.
ROBBERIES: Robbers pillaged two houses, robbed three passers-by and took away a motorcycle in and around the city here on Monday.
Four outlaws forced their entry into the house of Ashraf Masih in Francisabad. They held the family at gunpoint and took away Rs30,000 in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables. Later, they entered the house of Emanuel Masih and tied his family members with ropes. They collected Rs10,000 in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables and escaped.
Four car riders intercepted three passersby in Baghbanpura and snatched at gunpoint Rs41,000 in cash from Muhammad Ali, Rs8,610 from Muhammad Rafiq and Rs12,000 from Hasan Muhammad and their mobile phones.
Three bandits intercepted Kashif Ansari in Sultanpura locality and took away his motorcycle (LWM-8912) when he was on his way home from Garjakh market.
FOOD POISONING: A man reportedly died of food poisoning in the DHQ hospital here on Monday.
Imtiaz Ahmad of Baghbanpura ate stale meal from his refrigerator. He fainted and hastened to DHQ hospital where he died.
