SANGHAR, Sept 11: People from different areas of the Sanghar city staged a demonstration on Monday in protest against government’s failure to drain out rainwater stagnating their localities.

Hundreds of protesters led by Allah Rakhio Khaskheli, Innoo Depar, Rahim Bux Depar from Shahmir colony, Nizamani mohalla, Kingri town and Depar colony gathered outside the local press club and blocked the Mirpurkhas road and burnt old tyres.

They marched on roads and reached the district council to meet the district nazim. For six weeks, the sewerage system was blocked; roads and streets of their areas had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects, they said.

They said they had to wade through rainwater mixed with sewage to reach home and workplace.

The stinking water had polluted the atmosphere, they said, adding that they had repeatedly informed the taluka union council and district council, but no one was paying any attention to the problem.

They alleged that the Sindh government had provided millions of rupees to drain out rainwater, but no one knows where the amount had been spent.

District Nazim Haji Khuda Bux Rajar met with protesters and visited the affected areas and held out an assurance that the stagnant water would be drained out.

KILLED: A 17-year-old girl, Rabel, died here in mysterious circumstances.

Her father said the girl, a teacher of a private school of Khadro town, had died when she had pushed the trigger of a pistol by mistake while cleaning the weapon.

However, the Khadro police on behalf of state have registered a case against her father and brother. No arrest has been made till the filing of this report.
