NAWABSHAH, Sept 11: Salary for more than 150 primary school teachers could not be released as the main branch of a bank deducted Rs872,984 from the accounts of the Nawabshah education department for adjustment of advance salary accounts.

The bank deducted an amount of Rs267,000 from the account of ADEO (men) and Rs605,984 from the account of ADEO (women) on Saturday.

The amount, including the mark-up of bank, was deducted on behalf of default accounts of seven employees including school teachers who obtained loans of 15 advance salaries and failed to pay the instalments.

A letter written to the ADEO (men) education by the bank said that employees were chronic defaulters and submitted guarantee due to which the amount was being deducted to clear bank dues and adjust their accounts.

The accounts were in the name of Rao Zafarullah, Mohammad Shafiq, Abdul Rasheed, Mohammad Shafiq, Mohammad Islam, Rana Mehfooz and Mohammad Haroon who were not the employee of the Nawabshah education department.

An inquiry is being conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (Sindh) to ascertain how of fake employees were advanced loans by the bank.

The district officer (elementary education) has also written a letter to the ADEO (men and women), and DDO (women) mentioning that salaries of teachers and other staff would suffer due to deduction as amount was deducted at the time of presenting salary bills.

She also directed them to submit a detailed report in the matter and inform about the recommended cases submitted to bank and in case of failure, they would face the consequences if created in the regard.

ADEO (women) Akhtar Channa said that the salaries of more than 100 primary school teachers and staff would be affected due to deductions.

She said that the people were not employee of the education department and they had already furnished a detailed report to the NAB in this regard.
