HYDERABAD, Sept 11: The Sindh Abadgar Board has appealed to the federal government to declare ten districts of lower Sindh calamity-affected as recent rains of September 7 and 8 have wreaked havoc in the districts.

In a communication addressed to the president, SAB chief Abdul Majeed Nizamani said that the impact of rains varied in different parts of Sindh.

He said that Thar, Kohistan and Kachho had been benefited but in other areas, the rain had devastated everything in its wake.

He said that Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Matiari, Umerkot, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Nawabshah and Hyderabad had been totally devastated.

Mr Nizamani said that the growers of the districts should be exempted from payment of all taxes and fresh agriculture loans should be provided to the farming community to help them stand on their legs.

He said that the federal government should assess damages of villages and infrastructure and announce a special package for the rehabilitation of affected people and infrastructure.

He said that an amount of Rs65 billion would be required for the purpose.

He urged the federal government to formulate and announce a “disaster management policy” to meet such natural calamities.
