Anti-polio drive to immunise 645,000 children

SWABI, Sept 7: Representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) were briefed on polio vaccination campaign in the district here on Thursday. Health officials informed WHO representatives that the people of Malikabad in Gadoon Amazai had given up their protest against the campaign and were now ready to administer anti-polio vaccine to their children.

The local jirga members had also extended support to the campaign organisers, they said.

Dr Abdul Ghaffar of WHO and other officials visited the district on Thursday.

Expanded Programme on Immunisation district coordinator Dr Tariq spoke about the three-day polio campaign staring from Sept 12. He said anti-polio drops would be administrated to more than 252,000 children, adding that 530 teams had been set up to do the job.
