PESHAWAR, Sept 6: Defence Day of Pakistan was observed with fervour and solemnity in all cantonments of the province on Wednesday.
According to an Inter-Service Public Relations statement, a wreath lying ceremony was held at the grave of Captain Kernal Sher Khan, the recipient of Nishan-i-Haider, at his native town in the Swabi district to pay homage to the hero of Kargil war.
Captain Kernal Sher Khan was commissioned in the Sindh Regiment of Pakistan Army in 1995. He laid his life in the defence of the motherland at a forward location at an altitude of 18,400 feet on 28 June, 1999.
Captain Kernal in his bid to recapture a post not only evicted the enemy but also inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy troops.
Meanwhile, people took interest in the special equipment display held in the Kernal Sher Khan Shaheed Stadium at the Peshawar Cantonment.
Army officers and officials of the civil administration also visited stalls of infantry, armour, artillery, engineers, Corps of Signals, air defence, logistics and Frontier Corps.
