PESHAWAR, Sept 6: NWFP Minister for Youth Affairs and Culture Hussain Ahmad Kanju has said that the MMA government has planned to activate the youth affairs department to divert the attention of youths from negative activities, particularly from drugs and other social evils to positive pursuits, adding that efforts were under way to reform the department.

He was talking to a South Korean youth delegation visiting NWFP under the supervision of Central President All Pakistan Youth Organization (PYO), Syed Sardar Badshah on Wednesday. MPA Dr Zahir Shah and Secretary Youth Affairs Jalil Khan were also present on the occasion.

Warmly welcoming the delegates, the Culture Minister invited them to visit all the archeological sites and tourist resorts as there was no problem of law and order and the government would fully facilitate them.

Mr Kanju asked the Korean youth to inform the Koreans about the rich culture and values and traditional hospitality of the people of NWFP.

He further asked that they must convey the message of Islam that it is a religion of peace and brotherhood and forbid the killing of innocent human being and that the negative concept in the West that Muslim were terrorist was not true.

LOCAL GOVT: Provincial Local Government and Rural Development Minister Sardar Muhammad Idrees has said that strenuous efforts are being made to streamline the local government system and provide better services to people.

Presiding over a meeting of town nazims of Peshawar here on Wednesday, he said income matters would be reviewed to ensure that towns’ revenue was increased and development projects were completed.

The meeting discussed delegation of power to sign expenditure cheques, provision of funds, etc., to towns nazims.

All town nazims of Peshawar and town nazim of Havilian, Abbottabad, attended the meeting.

The minister assured the participants that the government would address problems of all towns without discrimination. The town administration could present its demands to the government, he added.

REFRENCE HELD: A full reference of the NWFP Public Service Commission was held here on Wednesday in honour of its former chairman Abdullah.

The function was attended by the commission’s acting chairman Abeedullah Jan. members and officials.

The acting chairman paid tribute his predecessor for his services.—PPI
